Pedestrians undoubtedly form one of the most numerous categories of road victims, especially if the analisys focuses on the situation in urban centres and on older age groups. The Authors have examined impacts with a lethal outcome for pedestrians and have used information obtained from the necroscopy database of the Milan Institute of forensic medicina. Out of a total of 2550 cases of death in the course of road accidents, 578 cases relevant to this present study were found (22,7%). The study has given particular emphasis to the information regarding: sex and age of the victim, place and time of the event, dynamics of the event, period of survival after the event and lesions suffered, with specific interest directed to the relationship between type of lesion and modalities in which the impact occurred.
