In 15 layers farms, l0 with traditional cages (total hens=n.690,737), 4 with enriched cages (hens=n. 688,929), and 1 with slat floor (hens=n. 14,498), egg production,FCR, and mortality were compared during a whole cycle (54-56 weeks). Hybrid line, origin of pullets, and hygienic situation were the same in all the farms. On the average, in layers kept in cages the number of eggs was higher in the enriched cages (320.84 Vs 314.16 respectively), FCR was the same (2.024 Vs 2.046), while the mortality rate was higher in traditional cages (7.49 Vs 5). ln a single farm whith the layers kept on slat floor the performance were worse than the cages, but the mortality rate was good (5%).
