Drawing on a variety of sources (street signs, postcards, memoirs and "spontaneous" poetry), the talk examines the modifications of a particular language (in this case, Italian) in a context of emigration (in this case, to the United States), and will offer some reflections on the interplay between oral (popular) and written (“high”) culture.
