The PhD thesis focuses on the rich production of historical novels devoted to the 1812 Napoleonic Campaign in Russia which were published in Russia during the 30's of Nineteenth Century. The thesis singles out the most important novels on 1812, which were almost unknown and never analyzed by literary criticism, even though they played an important role in the development of the genre of the historical novel in Russia. These novels were also the literary background against which Leo Tolstoy created his masterpiece "War and Peace".

Abstract
