The Italian league against epilepsy has etablished a collaborative study of genetically determined epilepsies. The clinical data are collected in Arezzo and the study is supervised by a committee of experts. A DNA bank has been established in Milano. This collaborative study is mostly concerned with idiopathic epilepsies and twin studies. The first results confirm the genetic nature of idiopathic generalized epilepsies, and point to the existence of new syndromes, such as the syndrome of absence epilepsy with eyelid myoclonias.

Abstract

The Italian league against epilepsy has etablished a collaborative study of genetically determined epilepsies. The clinical data are collected in Arezzo and the study is supervised by a committee of experts. A DNA bank has been established in Milano. This collaborative study is mostly concerned with idiopathic epilepsies and twin studies. The first results confirm the genetic nature of idiopathic generalized epilepsies, and point to the existence of new syndromes, such as the syndrome of absence epilepsy with eyelid myoclonias.
