Twenty patients due to undergo renal surgery for various disorders of the uropoietic system were treated with pipemidic acid (800 mg/day) for 3 days before surgery. During surgery itself, a renal biopsy was taken. The fragment removed showed pipemidic acid concentration to be between 22 and 48 μg/g, with a mean of 31.8 μg/g. The levels are, on the whole, higher than mean pipemidic concentrations for bacteria usually responsible for infections of the uropoietic system. The results were also inversely proportional to the age of the patient. The ability of pipemidic acid to concentrate in the renal parenchyma after oral administration, not only establishes its high effectiveness, but also confirms its selective antibacterial action in the treatment of genitourinary tract infections.

Abstract
Twenty patients due to undergo renal surgery for various disorders of the uropoietic system were treated with pipemidic acid (800 mg/day) for 3 days before surgery. During surgery itself, a renal biopsy was taken. The fragment removed showed pipemidic acid concentration to be between 22 and 48 μg/g, with a mean of 31.8 μg/g. The levels are, on the whole, higher than mean pipemidic concentrations for bacteria usually responsible for infections of the uropoietic system. The results were also inversely proportional to the age of the patient. The ability of pipemidic acid to concentrate in the renal parenchyma after oral administration, not only establishes its high effectiveness, but also confirms its selective antibacterial action in the treatment of genitourinary tract infections.Pubblicazioni consigliate
