100 Italian Friesian cows were fed on diets containing soyabean meal and sunflower meal (control) or soyabean meal and herring meal without or with injection of somatotropin 640 mg/cow every 28 days for 2 cycles. Somatotropin treatment plus herring meal increased milk yield. Substitution of sunflower meal and soyabean meal with herring meal reduced milk fat content and increased milk protein and somatic cell count. Somatotropin did not affect the reproductive variables.

Abstract

Somatotropin treatment plus herring meal increased milk yield. Substitution of sunflower meal and soyabean meal with herring meal reduced milk fat content and increased milk protein and somatic cell count. Somatotropin did not affect the reproductive variables.
