The experimental points of zero charge of a family of cobalt ferrous ferrites (CoxFe1-xFe2O4) are compared with the values calculated on the basis of two literature correlations. The extent of agreement between calculated and experimental results is markedly affected by the oxide composition, i.e. by the substitution of Co for Fe in the spinel lattice. The discrepancy between experimental and calculated values is attributed to the presence of surface defectivity, which is demonstrated to be a function of the substitution of Co for Fe in the oxide. © 1989.

Abstract

The experimental points of zero charge of a family of cobalt ferrous ferrites (CoxFe1-xFe2O4) are compared with the values calculated on the basis of two literature correlations. The extent of agreement between calculated and experimental results is markedly affected by the oxide composition, i.e. by the substitution of Co for Fe in the spinel lattice. The discrepancy between experimental and calculated values is attributed to the presence of surface defectivity, which is demonstrated to be a function of the substitution of Co for Fe in the oxide. © 1989.
