The trianion [Re7C(CO)21]3-, isolated from the pyrolysis of [ReH2(CO)4][NEt4] in n-tetradecane, has been characterized by an X-ray crystal structural analysis of the [PPh4]+ salt, and shown to contain a monocapped octahedral arrangement of rhenium atoms with an encapsulated carbon atom.

Abstract
