In six anesthetized, paralyzed and mechanically ventilated Large White pigs, systemic (PAM) and pulmonary arterial pressure (PAPM) have been evaluated. With rapid occlusion method, resistances (Rmax,rs, DeltaR,rs and Rint,rs) and elastances (Est,rs and Edyn,rs) of respiratory system have been evaluated during costant flow and volume inflation. Inhaled NO (80 ppm, 6') in control conditions increased static and dynamic elastances, while decreased PAPM. PAF administration (50 ng/kg iv) significantly raised respiratory resistances and elastances, and PAPM. Its effects are counterbalanced by inhaled NO. Results show that inhaled NO may represent a therapeutic strategy to reduce bronchoconstriction and pulmonary hypertension present in obstructive, inflammatory and allergic diseases.
