Two methods of hypertonic glucose infusion were compared in 74 patients submitted to parenteral feeding. Automatic regulation of the rate of infusion presents undeniable advantages compared to manual regulation. Statistical analysis showed a significant reduction in daily glycemic fluctuations. The indispensability of automatic infusion when hypertonic glucose has to be given in quantities higher than 1500 Cal./die during parenteral feeding is stressed.
