The performance of propane (C3H8) as hydrogen donor molecule for the deep catalytic oxidation of tetrachloromethane (CCl4) has been experimented and compared with the use of other previously studied hydrogen font molecules. The oxidation of CCl4-C3H8 admixtures contained in air streams was carried out by catalytic combustion over chromium(III) oxide and manganese(IV) oxide supported catalysts with and without pre-catalytic actions of ionisation/ozonisation. The conversions of CCl4 and hydrocarbon and selectivity to HCl/Cl2 were controlled during the experiments realized under different conditions of reagent concentration and reaction temperature. The CCl4 conversion was affected by the amount of C3H8 added to the air organic mixtures over chromium oxide catalyst while it run independently of the C3H8 added over manganese oxide. Selectivity to HCl increased with the amount of C3H8 addition, manganese oxide was more selective than the chromium oxide catalyst.
