Purpose of the study—The present study was designed to assess both the reduction of the three-dimensional motion and the hemodynamic changes after local stabilisation. The performance of three stabilisers were compared: OPCAB Immobilizer (Genzyme), Octopus 2 + (Medtronic) and Axius Guidant (CTS). Each stabiliser was applied to three coronary branches: the inter-ventricular left anterior descending coronary artery, IVA, the inter-ventricular right posterior descending coronary artery, IVP, and the obtuse marginal of the circumflex left coronary, MO. Method—Ten pigs underwent surgical chest opening after anaesthetisation according with the national animal welfare regulations and guidelines. Atrial and arterial pressures and EGG were monitored. A marker was placed on the investigated branch between the two arms of the stabiliser and its motion was recorded for 10 s with two TV-digital-cameras Sony PC2E. Results—Significant statistical differences were observed only with respect to IVA, where the Genzyme stabilizer was less effective in restraining the residual motion (about 30%). Haemodynamic changes were statistically significative in all cases with respect to baseline values. However, modifications were temporary and haemodynamics restored afte the removal of the stabilisers
