Objectives: To evaluate the improvement of respiratory function after orthodontic surgery in a group of 16 patients. Materials and methods: This study involved 16 orthodontic surgical patients (both males and females) aged between 18 and 30 years. Nasal resistances were evaluated by rhinomanometry before and after the surgical correction. Results: Thirteen out of 16 subjects investigated by AAR at 150 Pascal, 11 out of 12 cases by APR at 75 Pascal and 12 out of 12 patients by APR at 150 Pascal showed increased nasal resistances before surgical therapy. All the patients showed decreased nasal resistances after orthodontic surgery. Conclusions: These results confirm the improvement of respiratory function after orthodontic surgical correction.
