Dyslexya isn’t a simple perceptive deficit but a more complex one linked to the malfunctioning of high cognitive functions. An early diagnosis is necessary in order to recover a good reading ability and good social relations. The author analyses the various interpretative hypothesis regarding this heterogeneous disease which involves different neuronal and functional circuits. Basically two main theoretical models are described, both focalizing the attention to the neurophysiological damage (thanks to the new diagnostic imaging techniques) and to the macroscopic anatomical damage of specific areas of the brain. The role of neuropsychology is enhanced through the study of the brain’s electrical and muscular reactions following reading aloud visible alphabet letters.
