Monitoraggio ecografico di un caso di rottura della corda femoro-metatarsica in un cavallo sportivo

The rupture of Peroneus tertius is an uncommon disorder of sport horses as can be drawn by the few reports found in the literature. In the present paper a case of partial rupture of the tibial portion of Peroneus tertius in a showjumping horse will be discussed, with particular reference to the ultrasonographic examination as a reliable mean to confirm the diagnosis. This technique also allows to monitor the healing process of Peroneus tertius in order to control the effect of treatment and the intensity of exercise that the horse should be given during the recovery period.
