Published for the first time in 1765, Ludovico Savioli's Amori enjoyed great success not only among men of letters, but also in social gatherings. The collection is composed of twenty-four odes of love, and portrays contemporary high society. This contribution retraces the history of the Amori, from the first circulation of some compositions on flying sheets up to the last published edition with the involvement of the author. This investigation aims to lay the foundations for a new edition of Savioli's odes, both philologically and historically reliable, consistent with the cultural moment in which the poems circulated.

Abstract

Published for the first time in 1765, Ludovico Savioli's Amori enjoyed great success not only among men of letters, but also in social gatherings. The collection is composed of twenty-four odes of love, and portrays contemporary high society. This contribution retraces the history of the Amori, from the first circulation of some compositions on flying sheets up to the last published edition with the involvement of the author. This investigation aims to lay the foundations for a new edition of Savioli's odes, both philologically and historically reliable, consistent with the cultural moment in which the poems circulated.
