La sostenibilità urbana in Africa sub-Sahariana: ecological gentrification e nuove segregazioni socio-spaziali

In Africa South of the Sahara, the recent economic growth has produced several urban projects aimed at improving the quality of urban life and urban environment. These projects were not directed to the improvement of existing urban centers, but to the production of new high-quality spaces separated from the rest of the city and destined to the emerging political-economic elite. In some contexts the environmental issue has been used as a tool to remove the poorest part of the population from the strategic areas of the cities. This process of "ecological gentrification" has produced new forms of socio-spatial segregation.

La recente crescita economica del continente africano ha prodotto diversi progetti urbanistici volti a garantire una migliore qualità urbana, anche in termini di sostenibilità ambientale. Tali progetti sono stati indirizzati non tanto al miglioramento dei centri urbani esistenti, quanto alla produzione di nuovi spazi di alta qualità separati dal resto della città e destinati all’emergente elite politico-economica. In alcuni contesti la questione ambientale è stata usata come strumento per allontanare le fasce più deboli dalle zone strategiche dei centri urbani. Tale processo di “gentrificazione ecologica” ha prodotto nuove forme di segregazione socio-spaziale.
