Abstract
As the excommunicated emperor Louis IV. the Bavarian was on his way to the coronation in Rome, the municipal institutions and some of the most prominent figures of Todi owed allegiance to him. This stance led to long-lasting inquisitorial processes involving also the friars Minor of the convent of San Fortunato who took sides of the deposed general minister Michael of Cesena and of the antipope Nicholaus V. against the pope John XXII. In 1332, the conviction of the commune and of the citizens of Todi opened two decades of appeals. Finally, in 1354, Innocent VI instituted a revision procedure culminating in the cassation of the previous judgments. The critical edition of the documents conserved in the Archivio Storico Comunale of Todi and in the Archivio Segreto Vaticano sheds new light on these fascinating events.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
