This essay aims to re-evaluate the work of Renato Simoni and critically re-read his relationship with Giacomo Puccini, beyond the very important composition (but already carefully studied) for Turandot. Although it has been for almost forty years not only the theatrical critic of the most important national newspaper ("Il corriere della sera"), but one of the leading exponents of the culture of theater and society of the early twentieth century, there are few studies dedicated to Renato Simoni's activity. Dramaturge, critic, librettist and director, Simoni - born in Verona in 1875 and died in Milan, at seventy-seven, in 1952 - is substantially remembered above all for having collaborated with Puccini in writing the booklet of Turandot, as evidenced by the dense correspondence kept at the Livia Simoni library.

Abstract
This essay aims to re-evaluate the work of Renato Simoni and critically re-read his relationship with Giacomo Puccini, beyond the very important composition (but already carefully studied) for Turandot. Although it has been for almost forty years not only the theatrical critic of the most important national newspaper ("Il corriere della sera"), but one of the leading exponents of the culture of theater and society of the early twentieth century, there are few studies dedicated to Renato Simoni's activity. Dramaturge, critic, librettist and director, Simoni - born in Verona in 1875 and died in Milan, at seventy-seven, in 1952 - is substantially remembered above all for having collaborated with Puccini in writing the booklet of Turandot, as evidenced by the dense correspondence kept at the Livia Simoni library.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
