Starting with a reflection on the rediscovered fortune of Persephone between the 19th and early 20th centuries, the article examines a selected dossier of gold leaves, probably of Orphic Pythagorean origin, where the figure of the Queen of the Underworld seems to play a central role. It then concentrates on three laminae from Thurii, a pan-Hellenic colony founded by Pericles in 444/3 B.C. on the ruins of ancient Sibari, destroyed by Croton in 510 B.C.: these are actually two different archaeological contexts corresponding to the so-called Timpone piccolo and Timpone grande. Particularly interesting is one of the leaves (OF 488) where the possibility of a rebirth rite through a passage through the womb of the goddess is suggested.

Abstract
Particularly interesting is one of the leaves (OF 488) where the possibility of a rebirth rite through a passage through the womb of the goddess is suggested.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
