The present editorial addresses the issue of iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in infants aged 6–36 months including the controversies regarding the current guidelines and the possibility of improvement in screening, prophylaxis and diag- nosis of this condition. Iron deficiency (ID) is the commonest nutritional disorder worldwide. Infants and toddlers aged 6–36 months are particularly at risk of developing this condition and of progression to frank iron deficiency anemia (IDA) due to rapid growth and rapid depletion of iron stores.
