The paper investigates Gide’s L’Immoraliste and Isabelle so as to unveil their common structural and enunciative characteristics. In both works, the narrators of the first-level narrative become audience in the second-level tale, thus evidencing a passage (i.e. a mediation) between the author’s inner universe and the reader’s real world.
