The article is part of a broader research on compliance mechanisms and on their role in dealing with or preventiong international environmental disputes. THey are non judicial in nature and they are entrusted with the task of assessiong and facilitating State compliance with international treaties. THe article focuses in particular on the Compliance Mechanism provided for in the Cartagena Protocol to the Biodiversity Convention.
