The EUS examination is a significant method for detecting benign and malignant lesions in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. The diagnosis of the depth of cancer invasion correctly before surgery is one of the most important factors in determining the feasibility of the operation. The diagnostic capacity of the EUS is based on the analysis of the layered structure observed in the ultrasound image. In conclusion, the usefulness of the endoscopic ultrasonography is high in the diagnosis of the benign and malignant lesions of the gastrointestinal tract even if some problems still remain to be solved like invalicable stenosis in some advanced cancer
