Abstract Movie-therapy in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Theoretical assumptions and clinical practice. Movies are used in psychiatric rehabilitation based on their symbolic and expressive function witch has its roots both in the fantastic and in the realistic nature of movie fiction. Based on the issues it contains watching a movie means conjuring up personal experiences and memories of the past, with can later on be processed by the subject. The group “Cineforum” has been giving a rehabilitation treatment for many years with in Rehabilitation Day Hospital of the Psychiatric Clinic at the University of Milan. After a general introduction on the use of movies in therapy and rehabilitation, the study deals with the objectives and the method with have been followed. As an explanatory example, a session of the group is reported and discussed.
