After discussing the different meaning that the terms “poetry” and “philosophy” can assume in different cultural phases, the most famous Russian philosophic poems by Trediakovskij, Lomonosov, Deržavin in the Eighteenth century, and Tjutčev in the Nineteenth are presented, showing how poetry adds to the purely rational analysis of a problem, and how contradictions can be part of the proposed solution. In the end a short poem by Michail Murav’ev (1775-1783), approaching the relativity of Time is considered.
