The article deals with the differences between interpretation of monolingual legislative texts and multilingual legislation. While interpretation theory assumes a monolingual model, European community legislation is enacted in 23 official languages. Interpretation of multilingual texts require a dramatic change in traditional interpretative criteria. ECJ case law shows that teleological criterion prevails, but this seems reductive.
