In my paper I will explore the epistemological implications of the etymological origin of the term “Empathy” (en-pathos), meaning a movement performed by a subject towards and into another subject. Such a movement produces paradoxical hyper-subjectivist effects supporting a hydraulic model of transfer or projection. While criticizing such a paradigm, I will consider alternatives suggested by transcendental aesthetics, phenomenology, theoretical biology and robotics, addressing some fundamental articulations of the empathic experience: person-person; person-object; animal-animal; animal-person; person-cyborg; cyborg-cyborg.

Abstract
In my paper I will explore the epistemological implications of the etymological origin of the term “Empathy” (en-pathos), meaning a movement performed by a subject towards and into another subject. Such a movement produces paradoxical hyper-subjectivist effects supporting a hydraulic model of transfer or projection. While criticizing such a paradigm, I will consider alternatives suggested by transcendental aesthetics, phenomenology, theoretical biology and robotics, addressing some fundamental articulations of the empathic experience: person-person; person-object; animal-animal; animal-person; person-cyborg; cyborg-cyborg.Pubblicazioni consigliate
