Despite the preservation of many traditional knowledges, Castilian encyclopedias diverge clearly from bestiaries in their presentation of zoological subjects. The main works in this genre (Semejança del mundo, Libro del Tesoro, Lucidario) reveal, in different degrees, the aim to get beyond the symbolic perspective, and describe nature in a new way. Collecting different sources, adding direct observations, looking more closely to the Iberian environment, they reduce the abstraction of animal images; nevertheless, the world of animals maintains a close relation with human life and imagination.

Abstract
Despite the preservation of many traditional knowledges, Castilian encyclopedias diverge clearly from bestiaries in their presentation of zoological subjects. The main works in this genre (Semejança del mundo, Libro del Tesoro, Lucidario) reveal, in different degrees, the aim to get beyond the symbolic perspective, and describe nature in a new way. Collecting different sources, adding direct observations, looking more closely to the Iberian environment, they reduce the abstraction of animal images; nevertheless, the world of animals maintains a close relation with human life and imagination.Pubblicazioni consigliate
