Severe atrophy of edentulous ridges may represent a relevant limit for the rehabilitation of edentulous patients by means of implant-supported prostheses, due to the lack of bone and the unfavorable intermaxillary relationships. The aim of this lecture is to present an updated overview on the present possibilities for the restoration of mastication and esthetics in such patients. The clinical outcome of different surgical protocols according to initial clinical situation will be presented and compared to data reported in the international literature
