Grapes in Northern Italy were studied using polymerase chain reaction and RFLP analysis of 16S rDNA amplicons to investigate the presence and distribution of the phytoplasmas involved with flavescence doreee (FD). Two phytoplamas were detected, 1 belonging to the 16SrV phytoplasma group responsible for FD disease, and the other belonging to 16SrI-G phytoplasma subgroup considered responsible for other yellows of Europe (including Bois noir, GY, and Vergilsbunkrankheit).
