Synthesis of 3-oxo-14,15-dihydroandranginine (3) is detailed based on Diels-Alder reaction of 5-ethenyl-N-[[(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]ethyl]-3,4-dihyropyri-din-2-one (11b) and methyl N-(p-methoxybenzensulfonyl)indole-2-(2-propenoate (9). This represents the first synthesis of the skeleton of(+/-)-andranginine 1.
