Abstract

There are 4 different ways of conveying knowledge into the characters and readers of Bleak House. I call these cognitive modes inductive, haphazard- realistic, stereotypical and symbolical. The interplay and redundancy of these cognitive modes create a displacement and a fog effect that reveals a kind of scepticism in the knowledgeability of ultimate truths.
