Audiovisual Media and Albanian Diaspora. New Research of the Ethnomusicology and Visual Anthropology Laboratory (LEAV - University of Milan)

The audiovisual technologies in ethnomusicological and anthropological fieldwork, in the last years, are becoming more and more important; particularly, the new media result to be very useful especially in research about the performance and the issue of the identity. The Ethnomusicology and Visual Anthropology Laboratory of Milan, active in the last years in the multimedia research field, is devoting a special attention to the Albanian culture and its diaspora. In the presentation, will be displayed some materials related to two recent research about different aspects of Albanian diaspora. First, a short video about the Albanians of Ucraina, realized in collaboration with Alexander Novik and his students from St. Petersburg during their fieldwork. Second, some materials related to the Holy Week in the arbëresh village of San Benedetto Ullano (Shën Benedhiti), where the performace of arbëresh songs of Giulio Variboba, together with others based on the italian poems of Alessandro Manzoni, demonstate how complex are the identity issues in the arbëresh community
