The paper proposes an analysis of urban regeneration processes in contemporary European cities. The transition from the traditional industrial model resulted in huge transformations of the urban built form and landscape. The local authorities eventually participated in reshaping cities, adopting urban renewal programs and policies. The focal point for the study of the regeneration of troubled areas and urban diseases is directed towards metropolitan landscape, interpreted in a systemic approach and thus viewed as a representation of ongoing territorial dynamics. The core of the research presented concerns policies and practices promoted by European Union in the urban planning and regeneration framework – and their consequences in reshaping and reorganizing the city.
